National Vocational Qualifications are recognised national qualifications throughout a variety of industries. They are
positive proof of your competence to carry out your role to a set standard.
- Do I need to attend a college or university?
No, NVQ's are based entirely on your existing work role. Evidence in the form of Supporting Knowledge is collected as you
actually carry out your daily tasks. Induction and assessment can be carried out by us at your place of work.
- How long does it take to achieve an NVQ?
That very much depends on both the candidate and the level of NVQ being undertaken. A level 3 or 4 candidate
could achieve an NVQ in as little as 6 months although some may be slightly quicker and some slightly slower. A
level 5 candidate would be expected to complete in around 18 months. With Geoff Hart Training and Development there is
no rigid start or completion date
- What is meant by supporting knowledge?
Supporting Knowledge is simply evidence of the work you carry out. It may be in the form of an order you have placed, minutes
of a meeting you have held, chaired or attended. Other forms may be photographic evidence, witness testimonies or personal
statements. All of your evidence will be collected against required units and elements contained within the Standards booklet
provided to you.
- Who are the awarding bodies?
The Joint Awarding Bodies are:
Edexcel Foundation (University of London)
Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB)
Institute of Civil Engineering
(ICE)
- Will I be expected to work without help and guidance?
Most certainly not. Our Assessors are there to help and assist you in achieving you qualification. They will
make a series of visits to you at about 3 monthly intervals to firstly assess work you have carried out, and then to assist
in any problems you may have with either work carried out or your next units.
